April Blackmon Strange is the Director for the University of Kansas Student Veteran Center, and has obtained a MS in mass communications from Kansas State University. April is a military “brat” and the spouse of a retired Army veteran, and has served the military and its family members throughout her career. April worked at Fort Riley for nearly a decade, including as a Public Affairs/Community Relations Officer and as the founding Director for the nonprofit United Service Organizations (USO) Fort Riley where she built a center and created programs for the military community. She recently served as the KU Medical Center Community Engagement Communications Manager and led initiatives to make the campus more military-friendly.
