Summary

Sean Navarro is the Assistant Director of the Military-Affiliated Student Center (MASC) and the University Innovation Alliance Fellow for Office of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Kansas (KU).  He provides support and coordination for MASC programs as well as programs that build more effective pathways for students to reach success across campus.

Before coming to KU, Sean was as an academic advisor at the University of Missouri (MU), working with students who were in the process of deciding on their major and students in transition as they worked on gaining eligibility to enter their desired major. In addition, he worked in the MU Career Center as an undergraduate and graduate assistant in a similar capacity by helping students explore the various major and career paths that are available to them. He has held leadership roles on the Missouri Academic Advising Association executive board as the vice president of membership and is the current president for the organization.

Before attending college, Sean enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and spent four years on active duty with “The Commandant’s Own,” the Marine Drum & Bugle Corps. After completing his enlistment, he joined the Missouri Air National Guard as a musician and photojournalist before receiving his commission as a public affairs officer.

Sean has interest in the areas of career development, positive psychology, strengths-based approaches, and motivational frameworks. He earned a Master of Education in Counseling (Career) Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Missouri. He was raised in Lenexa, Kansas.

  • Nov. 15 Trans Vets Talk, 6 p.m., Centennial Room, KU Memorial Union. Join the KU Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity and the Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity for a screening of the short film “Transgender, at War and Love,“ followed by a panel highlighting the voices and experiences of local transgender veterans.
  • Nov. 15 VA Veterans Town Hall, 6 p.m., Lied Center Pavilion. A town hall for veterans and their families in Lawrence and surrounding communities, hosted by Department of Veterans Affairs executives and the VA health care team.
